The Hatchet is a book that I had gotten in the 6th
grade for class just like Bud Not Buddy. The Hatchet is a book about a thirteen year
old boy named Brian Robeson. In the story Brian is riding a Cessna 406 bush
plane to live with his father in northern Canada because his parents had got a
divorce. Brian’s father did not know why his wife wanted to divorce him but
Brian did. Brian saw his mother kissing another man and he kept it a secret
from his father so he wouldn’t be sad. His mother gives him a hatchet before he
was on the plane so he could use it in the woods with his father.
Also in the story, the pilot of the plane lets Brian sit in
the copilot seat. The pilot gets a heart
attack and Brian takes over the plane. Brian doesn’t know what he is doing so
the plane crashes into the woods. He uses his hatchet to survive. I recommend this book for boy scouts and kids
that are interesting in exploring the wilderness because it talks about survival.
