Andrew Jackson Part 2 Our
Seventh President
John
Quincy Adams Cheated Himself into Becoming President
Andrew Jackson did
not get the majority of the electoral votes, there for the speaker of the House
of Representatives decides who the new president is. Henry Clay was the speaker
of the House of Representatives and Henry Clay and John Quincy Adams secretly
met. They met to agree that Henry would give John Adams president. President
Adams gave Henry Clay the secretary of state in return.
Andrew
Jackson Becomes
President
Andrew Jackson
was thinking about his next campaign during President Adam’s term and gave
himself the promise to win the next election. Jackson’s supporters formatted a
new political party, called the Democrats. The democrats made speeches to
promise to help the poor Americans and Americans with less money than rich people.
In the election of 1828, Andrew Jackson became the president, but his heart was
broken when his wife died even though he was pleased to be president. She died
in December 22, 1822 in the same year of the election. On the bright side, he
won from a large number of votes.
Fixing the Issues
President
Jackson fired about 1,000 of the people out of the 10,000 people working in the
government. Some of the people he fired were stealing money from the government.
And others held their jobs for many years and he thought new employees would make
a better running government. When Jackson first became president an issue began.
When the government gave large amounts of money to the northern and western
states used for construction. It was unfair to southerners because the
government gave them less money. Andrew Jackson refused to sign a bill to give
Kentucky money for a new road because Kentucky was a western state at the time
and it pleased the south.
What
a Racist Man
President Andrew Jacks convinced Congress to
pass a bill called the Indian Removal Act in 1830. Alabama and Georgia wanted
the Creek, Cherokee, and Choctaw tribes to leave their states along because
they steal food from their houses. The Indian Removal Act is a law which is
when the president orders the army to remove Native Americans. About 4,000
Native Americans died while walking and this time was called the “Tail of Tears”
because they died along a trail. Well I’m assuming that’s why. Andrew Jackson
was such a racist man who thought whites were better than Native Americans and
blacks.
My
Last Thoughts
In my opinion I think that Andrew Jackson was
right for helping poor people rights. I also think that he was wrong because
why would you remove Native Americans for no reason? I don’t understand that
because Native Americans lived in North America for centuries and they are very
respectful! And one Native American wasn’t brave enough to fight back in after
The Indian Removal Act! Maybe if he would just let the Native Americans stay,
we would have a better population!
